Open Question: Which Carrier (AT&T vs. T-Mobile) gets better reception/coverage in Los Angeles and San Francisco, CA?

6 October 2008, 1:18 pm

I currently have T-Mobile (blackberry) and I am pretty happy with it. My contract just ended a few days ago, and I am thinking of switching to AT&T. I am waiting for the blackberry bold to come out now... However, I have noticed that AT&T is "significantly" more expensive than T-mobile plans. For example, I currently pay $78 for unlimited data, unlimited text, and 1000 min w/ weekends and night free. Similar plans for AT&T would cost me about $130 or so... I am very pleased with T-mobile service (since I sometimes call at 3 in the morning), but I constantly get drop calls or "call failed" messages in LA area (on Sunset blvd in Bev Hills, Mulholland Dr, and random places in Bev Hills, West Hollywood, etc). I was just wondering if AT&T has better coverage/receptions overall in Los Angeles and San Francisco area since I visit SF VERY often. I am currently a student so my budget is somewhat limited, but I am really getting tired of these "call failed" messages or drop calls, so I am willing to pay more if it's worth the money. Also, I have no credit as of now, and I think I should start buliding up my credit scores. Does AT&T allow me to have a contract with my name and SSN w/o huge deposit? or co-signer? or would I have to pay like #300~600 deposit, or get it under my parent's name?... read more
