First of all we are decent neighbors: no kids, parties, etc. In fact I'm the type of person who likes things to be quiet. Anyway, we have a friend visiting with a 2-year old. The little guy at 8PM on a Saturday night decides to try and run across the room. 5 minutes later someone is banging - pounding on our door. Our neighbor comes saying. "Dude, the noise is loud." I have to say, I got upset and told him that we had visitors and it was well before "night hours" and this was not considered excessive noise. I also reminded him that before he moved him I spent months looking at the different units and told him that the bottom units were too noisy. I also reminded him that we live in apartments and that noise is expected. Part of me wanted to drag him into my apartment and beat his small neanderthal head in for pounding on my door and scaring the poor kid. But, I like to consider my self slightly civilized. I've told my wife that if I am not home and he pulls something like that to call the police. I'm tempted to write him a letter and CC the HOA of the incident and in a nice way say, "Don't ever come banging on my door again." I was thinking of logging this issue with the local police if valid. I live in Los Angeles, CA. so if anyone knows about local harassment laws, that would be great. Anyway, I want to take the approach that he should have as calm but firm. I would also like to take up jump rope to let him know what noise really is and why you should always remain calm and not be rude to people. Of course, this would be done within the proper hours. Anyone got some advise on this? Point 1: I calmly explained what it means to live in an apartment. He was the one yelling while pulling his remanding hair out. Point 2: We had a previous issue with me having to wake up early (5AM) to catch a flight and apparently he heard me flush my toilet. He stuck his head out the door to curse at me while I was leaving. I left a note apologizing with a bottle of a good Malbec. So, at this point the only thing I will give him is a pineapple so he can, well you I'll leave that to the imagination.... read more
